Rules of Entry

  1. Whilst we welcome hand printing techniques, the Fuji/PPLA Colour Printer Awards 2006 are no longer restricted to hand printing. Prints can be produced using modern finishing techniques but must still display evidence, where relevant, of
    • Print sharpnes (sharp grain structure on the print, rather than that of the negative, which may be unsharp for 'creative' effect)
    • Overall colour balance as appropriate to the image
    • Skill shown in dodging/shading
    • Use of creative printing techniques such as:
      • burning in with colour filters
      • distorting the image
      • correcting verticals
    • Composition (by the printer, compared the full frame machine print)
  2. Entries must be accompanied by a signed authorisation by the Managing Director or Laboratory Manager accepting responsibility for use of equipment and material.
  3. The printer must arrange with the photographer to obtain the original negative, transparency or file to make the entry. The photographer must understad the terms of the competition and sign authorisation for use of his/her image. The credit of the Photographer's name cannot always be guaranteed in publications, the Printer's credit takes priority.
  4. Both the comparison print and the finished print must be supplied on Fujicolor Crystal Archive Professional Paper (MP,DP or CA) or Fuji Pictrography Paper.
  5. There is no limit to how many categories a printer or laboratory can enter.
  6. Entrants must supply 12" x 18" colour prints unmounted, plus a full frame quality machine print that is no larger than 8" x 6" for comparison. (Please note: the judges do notice poor machine prints).
  7. Closing date for receipt of entry at Technical Centre, Bedford is 28th February 2006.
  8. Fujifilm and the PPLA reserve the right to free reproduction of the prize winners' entried for publicity and promotional purposes.
  9. Every care will be taken of entries submitted, but Fujifilm and the PPLA cannot be held responsible for damaged or lost entries, regardless of how the damage or loss occurred.
  10. Entries will not be returned.
  11. The judges' decision is final and no correspondance will be entered into.
  12. The preferred Printer of the Year will be required to meet certain criteria goerned by Fuji Photo Film (UK) Ltd. Fujifilm reserve the right to place any print business at their discretion.
