Genesis shows its true Primary Colours

For almost eight years, Genesis, the Fulham based pro-lab, has been meeting the changing needs of its customers. Originally working only with film, Genesis developed its services over the years as the industry changed and now has a full range of digital and analogue processing and outputequipment.
But with the increasing growth and success of Genesis came the need for expansion and owners Ken Sethi and Howard Lee began the search for a second site at the beginning of this year. Having heard on the London grapevine that Primary Colour, the well-established London lab might be for sale they took a deep breath, struck a deal and bought the business in April 2004. Primary Colour is located near Old Street and Clerkenwell and is ideally placed to cater for the young and established photographers in the increasingly fashionable areas of London which include
Islington, Shoreditch and Hoxton Square.
Howard Lee explains: “With the increasing time pressures on photographers, a fast turn around of work is crucial. This means they tend to use labs that are close to them geographically. By taking over Primary Colour, which is based in east London and the City, we were able to open up a whole new geographical market for our services, giving us virtually cross-London coverage.”

Primary Colour was well known as an E6 and C41 processing together with conventional colour printing services and its new owners are keen to maintain this expertise. However, they’ve also taken the opportunity to bring their new lab bang up to date with digital services. “With our commitment to providing the highest standards as well as range of services, we soon installed a Fujifilm drum scanner to enhance the digital imaging and printing department which already included a Fujifilm Frontier digital minilab, large format fine art Giclee printing and flatbed scanning services,” says Howard.
“Primary Colour was founded on a strong reputation for courteous personal service and refusal to compromise on quality. This ethos will stand the lab in good stead in its effort to build a reputation for its digital services to complement the conventional film processing and printing services. We are also very excited that Primary Colour has been chosen as the exclusive lab in the UK to provide Scala Black & White transparency film processing.”
Combine all this with the specialist services offered by Genesis, including Lambda large format photographic printing, comprehensive black & white processing and printing as well as mounting and finishing services - and the Genesis Group really does offer everything the pro-photographer needs. Howard concludes: “Quality and service mean everything to us and we’re always on the look out for ways to make our labs even better. Buying Primary Colour has allowed us to reach a wider audience and, we hope, has resulted in happy customers across London.” Primary Colour employs 15 technicians and 7 bikers collecting and delivery jobs all over London.
