Fujifilm's Face Detection technology was originally pioneered for the company's photofinishing division, where it was used for reproducing the fine detail in people's faces in print. Fujifilm have further developed the invention for use in FinePix cameras. Using a unique processor – based algorithm that identifies the combination of two eyes and a mouth, allows the camera to 'lock on' to its subjects and track movement in the live LCD. The intelligent reactions of this camera deliver perfect results and optimum portraits.
Real Photo Technology
Fujifilm has identified low light photography as one of the true benchmarks of a digital camera's performance. We have all experienced what it is like to attempt to capture an image in limiting light conditions; introducing the flash often leaves subjects bleached whilst rendering the background invisible. Not anymore; the FinePix F31fd reaches ground-breaking levels of sensitivity thanks to its Real Photo Technology.
Fujifilm's Real Photo Processor II enables the ISO 3200 sensitivity making flash-free photography possible with natural illumination. This results in balanced foreground and background exposure and no subject blurring, in even the dimmest conditions. This level of sensitivity in images details true colour, clear pictures and enables you to print at previously unachievable sizes with no loss of quality.

Intelligent Flash System
For those occasions when flash is required, Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system sets flash power output to achieve natural foreground illumination with balanced background exposure. Marrying Intelligent Flash to Face Detection Technology, the subjects faces will be correctly exposed with the right amount of light, therefore reproducing their skin colors in the best tone.
Intelligent Flash results in visibly more realistic, natural looking photos. For times when a decision about lighting could mean a missed photo opportunity, the FinePix F31fd's Natural Light & Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession, one with flash and one without, then displays them side-by-side for instant comparison.
Special scene modes
The camera's 15 scene positions include beach, snow and fireworks for optimum photography, no matter what the event. Its underwater scene mode acts in the same way as a red filter and, when teamed with the WP-FXF30 underwater housing, ensures underwater images from diving and snorkelling are as colourful and vibrant as the human eye sees them.
In addition the FinePix F31fd delivers an astounding 580 shots per charge, which means this perfect pocket companion is always ready to focus on the next photo opportunity.
