Innovation of the Year 2009

"In a year of unfettered gadget creativity, this has to be our favourite, most mind-fiddlingly brilliant piece of next-tech. The 3D W1 ticks all the "proper gadget" boxes, capturing photos and videos in stereoscopic 3D by combining images from two separate lenses and 10MP image sensors. You can then view them without glasses on its built-in lenticular screen, transfer them to Fujifilm's own Real 3D V1 photo frame or print them out on lenticulars. It's also compatible with the 3D TV screens we expect to emerge next year. Truly breathtaking."

"...If you're a shutterbug sucker for the latest kit, there's no way the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D will do anything other than knock your socks off, then beat them senseless. The rest of the world is still sadly playing catch up to this, but when they get there, huffing and puffing, you'll be waiting with a big grin and the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D in hand. Cheese!"

Brian May

"This, the very first of a new generation of 3-D cameras, could change the world. Why take flat pictures when you can take them in stunning 3-D?"

"The whole process of photographing in 3D is hideously addictive - experimenting to see how to get the best results and how stupid you can make someone else look. It's a reflection of the fact that, for the first time in a long time, we really are breaking new ground. Suddenly, photography is exciting again and by the end of the night, there has been a fight over who gets to take the next shot." - Chris Merriman for MSN Tech & Gadgets

"Overall, this is a very clever piece of kit that shows the future potential of the technology, and it is not too expensive to make it exclusive. I really enjoyed shooting with this camera and showing people the results... I want one and I think you will too."
